Basia Zielinska

My early childhood was spent in post-war, displaced persons Polish camp, housing 350 families, in England, and I was raised by war traumatised parents. I always had a strong, creative awareness, however, after completing school, art school was not an option so during my young adult years, I attended evening community classes in life drawing, glass engraving, decorative art and contemporary art whenever I could.

Decorative art led to a very successful career teaching for over a decade in private studios in Australia as well as overseas, winning several awards during that time.

Training as an art therapist has connected me to a strong awareness of the subconscious, using art mediums to document responses. Creating art replaced the spoken word in art therapy sessions and this subconscious communication is what I tap into on when I paint.
