You are invited to my first ever solo exhibition!
Preparing for the solo is a seriously nerve wracking experience and I had to figure out why! The creating of artworks was the easy part – relatively speaking.
Why then the sleepless nights, the anxious feelings in the pit of my stomach. Perhaps it’s because I consider myself an intuitive artist, far more interested in the process than in the product.
However with an exhibition coming up I had to actually look at my product through critical eyes. It was a bit unnerving, to say the least. All the classic fear driven emotions kicked in. My artist friends especially, you would know these demons,
“You consider yourself an artist?”
“Who on earth would waste their time coming to see your work?”
“What were you thinking of wasting gallery space hanging your work?”
You know, the usual stuff, because the reality is all my personal emotions are deeply etched into my work. My heart and soul are woven into all of my work. This may be a simple reference of my reaction to landscape, or, even more vulnerably, my internal landscape, which a lot of my works illustrate.
My beautiful, fabulous, encouraging FB friend support. Your comments have been so very welcome. Thank you. Another was when I realised that a lot of viewers see something deeply personal in my work. They take themselves on a personal journey. I absolutely love that because my art, dare I say most art, has a universal language, which often has a lot more to do than reflect the artist.
So I am calm again and absolutely thrilled to be exhibiting my work in my first solo.
You are all so very welcome to the opening between 3.30pm and 5.30pm. I like to think it will a bit of a party, catching up with family and friends. Do come and have a drink, and of course, please come and look at my work too. 2nd September, at Me Art Space, 25 Atchinson Street, St. Leonards, NSW 2065.
I hope to see you there.
